Repetitive Stress Injuries and a Really Wimpy Generation

January13

I will be the first to admit I haven’t played much with the Wii. It does seem very fun and Reia loves going to our neighbor’s house and playing for hours as long as I will let her. Therefore, I cannot attest to the authenticity of the news report I just watched discussing the “repetitive stress injuries associated with even moderate amounts of time on the Wii.”

A little elbow pain. Fingers hurt from grasping the controller. ARE YOU KIDDING ME????

Nintendo comes out with a toy that lets you feel like you are really excersising without actually doing the work, and people still complain.

“Doc, my elbow hurts when I move it like this.”

“Then don’t move it like that and get off the Wii.”

On another note or actual importance (to me anyway) I’m buying one of these. Our PE teacher at school introduced me to the fitness hoop. She looks great. OK, she already did, BUT she really likes this thing because she can hula hoop for 10 minutes while watching a little tube every day and is getting a teeny tiny waist. Her hoop is filled with water in order to weight it down, so I am going to find out if that in itself makes a diff.

If you’ve never been a good hooper, I have tried the water weighted one she owns. The fact that it is weighted helps to keep it up on your hips. Anyone else tried one??

Change is Good; Regular Dr Pepper is Better

November6

In my effort to drop a few unwanted pounds before, during and after the holidays, I am trying to switch to Diet Coke.

I am actually a Dr Pepper drinker. Ahhh, the sweet nectar of happiness….

Where was I? Oh, yes, Diet DP. So, my foray into Diet DP was unsuccessful mainly, I think, because it just isn’t the same. No matter what the commercials say, Diet DP tastes…like Diet. And diet stinks.

My new strategy is drinking Diet Coke. I don’t really drink regular Coke, so I’m hoping my taste buds won’t revolt against it, and hopefully I will be consuming anywhere from 1050-2100 calories less per week.

It takes 3500 calories lost (eating less) or spent (working out) to lose one pound. Drinking Diet puts me about halfway there each week.

I’ll keep you posted!
